Disney was purchased in Delaware late December, 2001. Orignially from New Zealand, he had been imported about six weeks prior to his purchase. In NZ he had competed through the medium level in dressage very successfully (roughly the equivalent of third or fourth level) as well as show jumping to 1.3 meters (slightly over 4 feet). He competed in four preliminary horse trials, won three of them, and was taken steadily around a CCI*.

In the States Disney was a very successful preliminary horse, winning GHMA twice and a second place finish at Groton House by half a point. He was in the ribbons at virtually every event.  Disney competed in the Morven Park CCI* in October 2002 and finished in 15th place. Disney was an uncommonly good mover and was mistaken for a warmblood in the dressage. He was catty and careful in the stadium, and quick and brave in the cross-country. He knew his job and his responsibilities and took care of his rider at every turn. His most notable attribute was his large head which wasn't roman nosed as much as it was moose faced.  Unfortunately, Disney suffered a trailer injury at Plantation Field Horse Trials early in 2003 and was rushed to New Bolton Center for emergency surgery. He had sliced through 2/3 of his lateral collateral ligament and the prognosis for his sound return was about 25% positive.

After months of recuperation, casts, and physical therapy Disney did make a full return and competed successfully in one more preliminary event before being sold to Lacey of New York. Disney has now moved on to another young rider after a successful career at prelim and is teaching her the ropes of eventing.
